Quotes

Kenny Chesney: (referring to his song “She Thinks My Tractors Sexy”) Yeah, it’s silly. But it’s infectious, and it’s written very well, and it made me laugh the first time I heard it. Music is like medicine to me, man. You’ve got to have serious things, and then you got to have “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” to have fun with and let your hair down. … We’re getting a bigger response from the “Tractor” thing then anything I’ve ever had out, and it’s not even a single yet.

Kenny Chesney: (referring to his song “She Thinks My Tractors Sexy”) The record company called me while I was out on the road. They told me they found this awesome song. I went in to listen to it, and I just fell in love with it. I just laugh every time I hear it. It’s just a fun song that paints a great picture. When I heard it I said, “I’ve got to have that song.” And we just tried to go in and have the most fun with it in the studio as we possibly could.

Kenny Chesney: (referring on his inspiration on writing songs) My inspiration comes from life in general. I keep my ears open. I overhear conversations in restaurants and on the street. I watch a lot of movies and TV, and I love to read. There are so many things that can be taken and made into songs — everything that has an emotion to it. I just look for things that people can hang on to.

Kenny Chesney: (referring to his love with Renee Zellweger) She and I fell in love like a couple of school kids. I’m glad to know that happens, that that exists.

Kenny Chesney: I’m very content being a bachelor. Not that I never think about getting married, I do. I want a family and want more balance in my life.Sometimes I wish I was like Alan Jackson or George Strait, who got married very young. That way you know (it’s you, not the fame).

Kenny Chesney (on his short lived marriage): I’m sad, I’m angry, and I’m hurt and confused. This is not what I envisioned my life to be six months ago.

Kenny Chesney: Where I’m from, no matter what you listen to, you talk country, you think country, you are country. Your family’s country. The food on your table’s country. The church you go to on Sunday morning’s country — And that’s a good thing. It means something. It stands form something. And, truly, when you scrape it all away, that is who I am.So that’ll always be the place I come back to.

Kenny Chesney: I think you go through so many ups and so many downs in your life, in college and for the first time in your life nobody’s there (in college) to help you work your way through it, that’s where you learn to do that.

Kenny Chesney: I love living my life in flip-flops.

Kenny Chesney: When people hear me, I hope they say, ‘he is very genuine and not plastic.’ I want to be remembered as a guy who cut some really great songs, wrote some really great songs…and was real.

Kenny Chesney: Somewhere in my family tree, I don’t know maybe five, 10 generations back, who knows, there is somebody that loved the islands. And I got it.

Kenny Chesney: This is my island therapy. To come out here, bartend, tell some jokes, hang out with the locals. I love it.

Kenny Chesney: I love songs that take me away to a certain place in my life. It doesn’t have to be a country song. The important thing is if the song makes you feel something.

Kenny Chesney: I have met people in the islands who have sort of shown me a different way to walk through the world.

Kenny Chesney: I’m proud of the fact that I’m at a point in my career that if I want to take a little bit of a left turn and make an album that is more hushed, more acoustic and more personal, that I can do it.

Kenny Chesney: It’s awesome to me the number of people who don’t really know who you are, but who’re finding this music now and are curious, and my attitude is always to let people have a sense of who you are, so they know where this music and these songs come from. Because it is my life, or the life of people I know.

Kenny Chesney: I like to rock and roll, but I’m a mushy guy, too. I want to be the guy that all the girls love and all the guys want to hang out with.

Kenny Chesney: What you see is kinda what you get with me. I’m a very real person, or I hope to be, anyway. I don’t have nothing to hide.

Kenny Chesney: I don’t think I ever feel sexy. I don’t think that’s for me to decide, if I’m sexy or not.

Kenny Chesney: Social topics may hit too close to home for people, but then again, if you pull a heartstring, then that’s what country music is. It’s not just songs about getting drunk and leaving your girl.

Kenny Chesney: There is absolutely no woman finer than one raised below the mason-dixon line and once you go southern may the good Lord help you, you never go back.

Kenny Chesney: Southern girls are God’s gift to the entire male population.

Kenny Chesney: I hit everything so hard this year, I had the biggest tour I’ve ever done, I had a record to finish that was real important to me, and, of course, I had something new in my personal life and I was trying to do that too. It really ended up being too much.

Kenny Chesney (referring to his five month marriage to Renee Zellweger): I’m all right. I’m good. There have been better times, but I’ll be ok.

Kenny (explaining why the word “fraud” was used by Renee Zellweger to annul their four-month marriage): We thought the least harmful (stated reason) was fraud because it (is) kind of broad … doesn’t specify. And boy … we were wrong. The only fraud that was committed was me thinking that I knew what it was like … that I really understood what it was like to be married, and I really didn’t.

Kenny (defending himself against gay rumours): No, I’m not (gay),’ but I didn’t want to draw any more attention to it … I didn’t have to prove to anybody that I wasn’t (gay). I didn’t feel like I really did.

Kenny (Entertainer of the year acceptance speech in 2006): This year has in ways been the most emotionally satisfying year and also the most emotionally draining year of my life. There have been so many ups and downs, it’s been like a huge emotional roller coaster ride.
